no PB 4 TB yet but 2 SBs BTRC and MM week1
-7th August Perth Half Marathon 1.47.43 *Season Best
7k splits; 32.35/35.20/39.48**
**-2min toilet stop (drank too much gatorade at 9k, and was slowing up trying to hold on until next toilet block for about 20 minutes from 14k to 17.5k), also this section is 7.1k.
1k 4.09 2k 8.29 5k 23.09.
Once again my BTRC sessions (and more disciplined mindset) especially the long intervals in the last 2 weeks has paid off with a 4 minute improvement on my Bunbury and Busselton efforts earlier in the year. Until 12k I really thought I was an outside chance to give my 1.41 PB a shake, and if not for the drinks/toilet stop shambles I probably would have done 1.42-1.45 maybe...although I did not feel very strong in the last 8k or so...Was trying to avoid getting mowed down by jhandi at the end but the toilet stop destroyed any chance of that. Impressed with how well she is improving. Must be those super sugar sessions (didn't mona say there is no super session hahaha)....Overall a good hitout, that gives me good practice for a PB next time hopefully, and very good baseline to see where I am at now.
-24th July Run for Gold 10km 47.33
First 5k to 7k ok, then ran out of steam, and got frustrated trying to find the K markers. Probably wasnt really as ready to race this weekend anyhow. Still a good time though at the moment.
-17th July Lake Joondalup 10km 46.33 *Season Best
Good race. good course. K markers all the way.
1k splits 4.05/4.43/4.48/4.28/4.35////////5.10/5.02/5.00/4.31/4.09
5k splits; 22.39/23.52
Best 10k time since 2005! Encouraging result which confirmed the BTRC regime is paying off even in the early stages.
Still have pathetic internet access, although I am trying to organise my life so I can get to libraries more often, and a nice big fat tax refund would get our PC back maybe...
Two good long runs with V at BTRC.
-9th July 2hrs 54min (28.6k) Mount street hill rep. 5am start.
-30th July 3hrs 6min (30k)A bit more relaxed with some more breaks. Explored kings park for the marathon course. V has been really good to train with, and hopefully her debut in the marathon goes well.
Three good intervals sessions;
-2nd August; 3x3km 13.17/16.45/13.51 HR's 159-186.
The 16.45 was at least 3.2km I think and for various reasons I plodded a bit, one was I wasn't sure where to turn...V pushed me in this one really well in first rep, and S in the last rep.
-14th July 8x500m + 2x2km (2.00-2.20 on the 500's, 10.41-11.20 for the 2k reps.) HR's 170-180 I think.
-26th July; 3x3km 14.13/14.29/14.09 HR's 168-180.
The shorter rest breaks I am not! used to and am still adjusting to, and also still getting used to the courses, so have been holding back a bit in first few weeks but on 2nd August I put the pedal to the metal a bit more in the 1st and 3rd reps.
So this week (1st august to 7th August) marks week 1 of my Melbourne Marathon hopes for the 5th consecutive year!
As usual its going to be a massive challenge to get my airfares entry and accomodation paid for, but I have major unfinished PB for TB biz with the MM, so need to go back and try again, try again...worried about a lot of stuff at the moment but trying to trust God make ends meet and learn from what went wrong in previous years and what went right in previous years. Also I think BTRC is a really good option so far in that has given my MM 10 week program a headstart, and hopefully Simon, V and co's enthusiasm, discipline and heaven forbid, maybe even some new ways of doing things will turbocharge my training a bit this time round...so here we go again...Its groundhog day, and the MM assault starts again...I have already tried to start more conservatively in my last 3 races, as part of the new more disiplined mindset. Hopefully it bears lots of good fruit. Here we go again...
Also been missing trail running a heap, and I know my knees will thank me if I go offroad, so keen on trying to get offroad as soon as its convenient and helpful to my MM plans. However I owe it to the BTRC crew to be committed to being there regularly.
Soon there will be 400m tracks marked throughout suburbia again, so interval venue options hopefully will get easier and more plentiful.
Hopefully exciting times ahead, but its been and continues to be a massive struggle to survive the cost of living this year. However I am much happier and in many ways much better positioned for MM version V this year maybe.

Always good to nab some Season's Bests. Still think you've got a marathon PB in there - something around the 3:15 mark. Pity Melbourne now finishes outside the G.
