...Blessed to have the opportunity to run this very challenging course (rocky terrain for some of it and about 700m of ascent AND 700m of descent) for the first time. Have trained on it with some Phaties I think about 2 years ago, but first race here and first official race for 2014 (although I did do the BT runclub 5km in 23.56 on January 1st, which is almost my worst time ever but not a good course or something I was in good condition for)... Tried to back off early on as I knew the big climb would be tough, and despite my improved training in the last 2 months hills are still not my biggest strength, i'm quicker on the flat. My ascending and descending seemed to be in good shape though and it is my main or only leadup race for Six Foot, so a good one to get through unscathed and feeling good about... Had a bit of good solid racing with a few people in the Snakes race so that was good. ONE month to go. Logged 243km in December and 250km in January plus have spent some time at Walyunga and Wungong in the last 2 months so starting to get some confidence and mileage on the board for Six Foot. Financial hassles very distracting at the moment and that is holding me back...trying to avoid it destroying my race in March...My weight at 84kg a concern...need to drop some kg!!! Taper time approaching, although I only plan to ha ve 1 easy week before the race...sooo a few more weeks to try and get maximum hills (preferably Darling Scarp or Stirling Ranges? (but thats unlikely)) on the board, and try and keep my mileage up. Did my first ever 100km week (12 hours!) in January so some good signs at this stage....
